Beehive - Bzzz-z-z-z
« on: September 21, 2008, 07:36:53 AM »
Got this little Beehive today for only a $1.00, as you can see it has a crack (not full yet) in it, but I still like it.  It is 4 measuring cups upside down, and it looked old (and different).

Anyone know something about the age, or make....

I will Bzzz-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z  off now..... :bolt: :24:

I assume that Menschick Goldman was a North American importer though rather than a manufacturer. When you look on Google, some of the marked items are plastic and marked made in Hong Kong. It seems to me be common that a lot of Japanese 1950s and 1960s imports to wherever were either unmarked beyond either Japan or Foreign or marked with the importer's or retailer's name plus Japan

Gee Thanks for finding all that stuff...  :kissy: :clap2: :clap2:

I could not find a thing at all.  For a $1.00, I love it.  It is so cute...and a neat little idea the way it is made.

But whom is Victor Goldman I think mine says...  ???

Mr Menschik's business partner I would guess, or another branch of the same company

These came in various colors (light blue and yellow being the most common; red (both a dark red and a lighter blush) and white being harder to find; I have heard of purple but I have never seen it). Your Menschik-Goldman mark is interesting. I am not questioning the authenticity of your set, but usually they are marked more clean (yours looks like the ink stamper was drunk LOL). They marked their items with the Menschik-Goldman, Inc. both with Japan and without. They also abbreviated it to M-G, Inc. Plastic sets will denote Hong Kong. I have only ever seen the stacking measuring cups with wet feet, yours are dry. Again, just a note. You can sometimes find them with a green M-G sticker. My wife and I have found stacking measuring cups, salt and pepper shakers, a honey pot, and a covered sugar bowl. Menschik-Goldman was the exporter; these were sold by Woolworth and several other department stores from the early 1950s (possibly as early as 1949) through the decade.
